Vietnam Veterans Day.

18 Aug 2024 by Adrian Beacham AKA Beachy

The Hills Murraylands Sub-branch of the Military Brotherhood MMC started the day with an early monthly meeting at Geronimo’s house. Dodgey was presented with his 6 years of service, and Kermit was presented with his 3 years. With the meeting finished we mounted up and rode in formation to the Torrens Parade Ground where the Vietnam Veterans service was being held. Our sub-branch was well represented at this service with only 3 apologies for personal reasons.

Today was all about remembering the sacrifices made during the Vietnam Conflict. The service commenced as soon as the Governor arrived and we heard from several Vietnam Veterans about the conflict. After the dignitaries laid their wreaths, veterans from Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam laid wreaths and memorials and incense was lit by the Vietnamese community. Sub-branch President ‘Beachy’ and Vietnam Veteran Roger "Dodgey’ Martlew then laid our wreath before the national anthems of Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia were played.

At the conclusion of the service everyone was invited to the hall where the Vietnamese community had provided lunch and we had a chance to mix with all.

This was an extremely well organised service and well attended by the communities.

Lest we forget
